Handicap Bathtubs

Handicap Bathtubs For Independent Bathing

Anyone who lives with a handicapped or elderly person knows that bathing can be a real challenge. Many people add benches or seats and grab bars to their bathtubs in an attempt to make them safer and easier for these individuals to use, but there is a better solution. Handicap bathtubs have a door so that you can walk right in and don’t have to worry about tripping, slipping and falling as you climb over the front wall like you do with a regular bathtub. There are a number of models of handicap bathtubs available from different manufacturers.

Safety Tubs is one of the manufacturers of handicap bathtubs, and you can find these tubs through many different retailers. They offer handicap bathtubs in four different sizes: 60" long x 32" wide x 32" high, 51" long x 30" wide x 37" high, 51" long x 26" wide x 37" high, and 48" long x 28" wide x 38" high. All of these tubs have chair height seats, easy grip door handles, non-slip floors, and a built in grab bar for additional safety features. These handicap bathtubs fit into standard sized tub spaces, and there is an extension kit you can purchase to make the smaller versions a perfect fit in a space that is a bit larger. You can also add optional features such as jet, air, and dual massage systems, aromatherapy, chromatherapy, an in-line water heater, an air filled neck pillow, an anti-scald device, and a minute drain. Prices for these bathtubs start at around $3,585.

American Standard also makes handicap bathtubs, and they make them in similar sizes to those mentioned above, except they are one inch deeper. They have similar additional features and start at $5,029.

One of the less expensive options for handicap bathtubs is the So-Lo Safety Walk-In Tub. It has a base price of $2,980. This tub is a lot shallower than the other options mentioned above. The measurements are 32"wide x 18" high x 59.5" long. Since the end walls are open this tub works best when installed in an alcove. These handicap bathtubs have a flip down safety seat, and you can get an optional heated shower deck, which makes the tub wider since it is attached against the back wall of the tub. You can get an optional 12 jet air massage system as well.
